Classical Civilisation Comes Alive at the University of Warwick’s Ancient Drama Festival

3rd February 2025

Year 12 and 13 Classical Civilisation students recently visited the University of Warwick’s annual Ancient Drama Festival. The event, held on January 31st, offered a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of Greek theatre and its historical context.

This year’s production of Aeschylus’ Agamemnon was particularly fascinating, incorporating Dr. Emmanulela Bakola’s cutting-edge research on the presence of the Furies. The festival also included lectures designed to enhance students’ appreciation of the play.

The visit proved to be a valuable and thought-provoking experience, enriching the students’ study of Classics. We look forward to hopefully attending next year’s event, which will complete Aeschylus’ trilogy. The trip was also enjoyed in the company of students and their teacher, Mrs. Oliver, from The Read School
