Year 13 Biology Students Explore the North Yorkshire Coastline

8th October 2024

Last week, Year 13 biology students spent 3 days in Filey, on the North Yorkshire coastline. We explored the rocky shore and used a variety of biological field techniques to study the distribution (location) and morphology (size and shape) of various organisms which live on the rocky shoreline, including limpets, dog whelks, beadlet anemones and several species of brown seaweed. We learnt some new skills and techniques which were promptly put to the test in one of our A-level required practicals. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Thank you to the biology department for organising it!
