On Monday 27th November, our A Level PE students travelled to Manchester to visit the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City Football Club. 

The trip was designed to assist students with their understanding of their A Level course and give them an opportunity to see the theory they have learnt in a real life setting. Furthermore, it was a fantastic opportunity for the students to be inspired, and gain an insight into potential sport-related career paths; to motivate them to remain dedicated to their respective sports.

In the morning, students arrived at the impressive Etihad Stadium, and shortly after received a Football Brands presentation where they learned how Manchester City have used media and sponsorship opportunities to commercialise their football to become the most valuable global football brand. Later, students were given a tour of the stadium and facilities, gaining a perspective of the behind-the-scenes resources needed to support a top professional football club and the vast number of people who work in the club to support the athletes. One of the highlights of this tour was visiting the Media Room where they were able to partake in a mock interview with a computer-generated Pep Guardiola!

Finally, they were then given an insight into ‘A Day in the Life of a Footballer’ where they studied the routines of Captain Ruben Dias to gain an insight into his daily routines to maximise performance including nutrition, physical preparation and psychology. This helped them to appreciate the level of dedication and detail which goes into performing at the highest level. 

We hope that all of our students had a wonderful day discovering the secrets of professional sports, and helped to further their understanding of sports science insight and brought some of the key A Level PE theory to life.
