Rites of Passage: Year 6’s Cathedral Adventure

3rd February 2026

Our Year 6 pupils transitioned their learning from the classroom to the historic aisles of Wakefield Cathedral. This visit formed a core part of their current RPE (Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics) studies, focusing on the significance of ‘Rites of Passage’.

The trip offered a truly immersive experience, allowing the pupils to engage with faith in a tangible way. Beyond studying sacred artefacts, pupils had the opportunity to wear traditional religious garments and re-enact Christian ceremonies. Being situated in such an authentic and inspiring setting provided the students with profound insights into how these life milestones are celebrated, offering a depth of understanding that only ‘learning outside the classroom’ can provide.

We are incredibly grateful to the Cathedral team for their warm hospitality. This visit was not only a highlight of the term for Year 6 but also a wonderful way to further strengthen the enduring bond between the Cathedral and our school.
