Our Christmas Carol Service at Wakefield Cathedral is always a much anticipated, special event which marks the festive season in the Wakefield Girls’ community. This crisp and bright afternoon, pupils from every class made their way with their teachers to fill the cathedral, recognising joy, feeling grateful for all that we have and in celebration of our community.
Welcomed and led by Revd Canon Dr Erik Peeters, Executive Head Dr Brookes, Associate Head Mrs Tingle and other members of senior leadership. The service featured our choirs, soloists, musical accompaniment and readings by pupils from different faiths across the school. The service included Walking In The Air featuring Year 11 soloist Riya, Somewhere in my memory performed by our KS3 choir. Our choirs and congregation sang Carol of the Bells, The First Nowell, Twelve days of Christmas and a rousing finale – Merry Christmas Everybody.
Thank you to Revd Canon Dr Peeters for thoughts and a thank you to Chiara and Esme in Year 9 for sharing a beautiful Christmas poem, to Mr Jarvis, Mr Jones for musical arrangements and to our pupils who shared their fabulous artwork, readings and reflections.
Part of our service incorporated how we can support those in need. This year, charitable donations will be made to Forget Me Not Hospice. This organisation works with families who are facing or living with the loss of a child. They provide outstanding clinical care but also a listening ear, helping hand and tailored support. This is a brilliant charity who excellent work across West Yorkshire.
