Drama Students Inspired by Powerful Performance of A Doll’s House at Sheffield Crucible

10th October 2024
Students in the Drama exam classes from Year 10-13 were treated with a trip to Sheffield Crucible Theatre as part of their A Level and GCSE course. They had spent a couple of weeks preparing to see Henrik Ibsen’s classic feminist play, “A Doll’s House”, now almost 150 years old but with a timeless message about the role of women in society.
In the play, Nora is seemingly content with her marriage to the successful bank manager Helmer Torvald. But after she commits an act of fraud to save her husband’s life, an act of blackmail threatens to tear down everything that she has worked for. As the crisis unfolds, she will learn the truth about her relationship and make a life-changing decision.
Students were seemingly enthralled by the production, even with its long running time, and were eager to talk afterwards about this exciting and well-regarded production with its innovative and impressive set design and stirring performance by Siena Kelly as Nora.
“I am very proud of how all students have responded to this challenging piece,” commented Head of Drama, Mr Besford. “They have demonstrated engagement and maturity at all times, and made some very insightful and perceptive comments about the impact of this great work.”
