House Dance Finals

13th March 2024

During the last 2 weeks, our Junior students have been performing in the House Dance Competition. Students have been rehearsing diligently and arrived at the finals well prepared and with imaginative costumes as they performed in front of the whole of the Junior Section.

Over the last half term, students have been getting creative and choreographing their own dance routines in curriculum PE lessons. It took several lessons for the students to plan and choreograph their moves and to practise their routines. All groups performed for their class and teachers in the initial judging round with 3 groups from each year group chosen to go through to the Finals.

Each year students learn and perform different styles of dance, so that during their time in Juniors they get the opportunity to learn a variety of moves and skills as well as using a range of different musical genres.

This year’s dance themes include:

  • Year 3: Line dancing. They performed to Achy breaky heart by Billy Ray Cyrus.
  • Year 4: Cheerleading. They performed to Mama Mia by Abba.
  • Year 5: Bollywood/Indian. They performed to Jai ho!  by AR Rahman and Pussycat Dolls
  • Year 6: Lyrical. They performed to Runaway by Aurora.

On Monday 11th March we held the Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 finals, and it was extremely difficult for staff to choose the winners. They commended the students for their confidence, choreography and synchronisation whilst performing some challenging routines. We were also thrilled to have some individual, duet or small group performances by other students who are performing in the Dance Show later on this year. They have been rehearsing independently of PE lessons, either during lunchtimes or at home, and from their wonderful performances it was clear to see the hard work and practice that has been put into their routines.

After a tense round of voting, it was ultimately decided that from Year 3, Clayton won, with the team consisting of Emily, Eva, Aizah, Edie and Sophie. In Year 4, Mackie won, with the team consisting of Ameera, Imogen, Avi, Jamine, Fei Fei and Meera. In Year 5, Mackie won again with Ruby, Idun, Emie, Kabisha and Milly. In Year 6, Lee won; well done to Olivia, Evelyn, Nitya, Gracie and Laurie for their brilliant performance.

Congratulations to all of the teams for their great performances and well done to the finalists who all received House Dance badges. We are thoroughly looking forward to watching our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 winners perform at our Dance Evening event at QEGS Theatre on 15th April.
