On Friday 1st December, our Junior students made the short walk to our local theatre, Wakefield Theatre Royal, to watch a magical production of Sleeping Beauty.
Slightly adapted to suit the pantomime’s classic comedic style, the storyline was a familiar favourite: In the kingdom of Wakeyland people rejoice as Old King Cole announces the arrival of a baby princess. The fairies are called to bestow blessings upon the babe – but one fairy, Nocturna, has other ideas. A terrible curse is placed upon the child and the King lives in fear for his daughter’s life.
It was a wonderful afternoon: relishing the slapstick humour, outrageous outfits, and being surrounded by belly laughs. It was a much-deserved reward for all of the hard work our Junior students have been producing throughout autumn term. We had the usual ‘Oh no it isn’t!!’ and ‘It’s behind you!!’ and Mr Rowley enjoyed his few minutes in the spotlight on stage!! We were really proud of the girls, especially their excellent behaviour, and this was commented on by staff at the Theatre. This was a perfect start to our Christmas celebrations !
