Prize Giving 2023

14th September 2023

The stage is set to celebrate the successes of our fine Classes of 2022/23  in our annual Prize Giving ceremony this evening.  Prize Giving welcomes invited students and families to relax and enjoy an informal drinks reception on the Quad before taking to seats in Jubilee Hall for the traditional ceremony which recognises success in many areas of our modern academic school life.

The ceremony opened with a welcome speech from the Chair, Simon Chamberlain and included messages from the Head, Heidi-Jayne Boyes,  reflections from our Deputy Head Girl, Amina, and Head Girl of 2022/23, Hooriya and wonderful musical performances by Zaima Farooq and Sara Omer.  53 prizes were presented and distributed thanks to alumna and Senior Associate at Hogan Lovells, Charlotte Lamb. We were honoured to be also joined by the Mayor and Award Givers, as well as members of the Executive Group and Governing Board.

Head, Heidi-Jayne Boyes commented upon the achievements of our young people showing how well-prepared they were for their examinations as a compound result of using their efforts wisely and working smarter not harder; outstanding teaching and the relationships which exist between the student and teacher; encouragement and support from their parents; prioritising their time and attending additional clinics and booster sessions; working with Learning Support to find study techniques that work for them and being immersed in an environment where they are surrounded by like-minded individuals who want to do their best. As another year at the School has flown by we have seen the girls achieve in so many ways and witnessed so many wonderful examples of leadership, kindness, teamwork, creativity and community spirit. Academic achievement is only part of what makes Wakefield girls stand out; they also possess great character, confidence, determination and humanity

Acknowledging and publicly celebrating the success of our students in all its forms is of great importance to our community.  It is marvellous to have the opportunity to personally congratulate many students for all their wonderful achievements and to encourage everyone to revel in, and value, learning.
