KS3 Music Festival

29th June 2023

On Wednesday 28th June, we held our annual KS3’s Music Festival, an exciting opportunity for our musicians in Years 7-9 to come together and display their musical talents that they have been working on diligently for the past academic year.

The evening was opened with a performance from our Junior Concert Band. We then introduced our adjudicator for the evening, alumna Sonum Batra (OG, 2005). Sonum is a professional sound designer, theatre Musical Director and musician, and we have been lucky enough to have her as a singing and piano teacher in the Foundation for the last 2 years.

The evening began with performances by students on strings. Thank you to Kate, for her performance of ‘Anything Goes’, Hema for her piece ‘Hungarian Dance’, and Alana for her playing of ‘Twenty Ways Upon The Bells’.

Next to perform was our percussion piece of the night by Year 8 student Yasmin, who performed ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay.

This was followed by vocal performances by Olivia, Lily, Amelie and Olivia.

Later, we enjoyed listening to brass and woodwind performances by Catherine, Maisie and Dominique.

Finally, on piano, we enjoyed performances from Riya, Olivia and Saachi.

They all played brilliantly, and we would like to thank all our students for performing with such confidence and skill. Thank you to Mrs Mathieson who was our accompanist for the evening.

Congratulations to Year 9 student Maisie, whose oboe performance of a piece by Handel, was chosen by Miss Batra’s as her favourite – Maisie was awarded the KS3 Musician of the Year trophy and 50 House points.

All the evening’s performers were awarded 10 house points for their brilliant playing and participation, which only adds to the suspense and excitement for next week’s House Finale – these last minute House points can make all the difference!
