Our U13 Indoor Cricket team travelled to Headingley Indoor Cricket Centre to compete in the West Yorkshire Finals. The team consisted of ten very excited Year 7 and 8 students who thought the day would never arrive after it was originally scheduled during the Snow Day.
We had a nervy start against Kirk Balk school but with runs on the board the team knuckled down in the field winning by 30 runs.
The rest of our group games versus South Hunsley and Acklam Grange School followed a similar pattern and we had topped the group. The other pool had seen a 3 way tie for first place with eventually Grammar School at Leeds topping the pool on run rate. We knew we had to up our game in the final to succeed.
Thankfully the nerves from earlier in the day had receded and the players were confident that if they stuck to their game plan of going into bat and putting the pressure on them to chase that they had every chance of succeeding. As throughout the day each and every player in the squad read the game fantastically, picking up the run rate when needed or steadying the ship when required. Ultimately, the team won by 19 runs!
Mr Morley and I couldn’t have been prouder of the team, a particular well done to Navya and Bea for their excellent captaincy. We are now looking forward to the North Finals at the end of April.
