In the first event of its kind in the Foundation, the Houses from Wakefield Girls’ and QEGS junior sections united to compete in this year’s Inter House Cross Country event. The Houses in both schools have different names, but they are joined by colours which are used to link the boys and girls.

Conditions were very favourable for a February. With bright and warm days in the run up to the event, it was firm underfoot. It was also a good day for spectators and there were a large number of parents present showing support of the races.
The Year 3 girls were up first. Bea raced extremely well taking first place for Lee House followed by Phoebe in second place and Amelia and Orla in joint third position.
Year 4 girls ran next. Rosa finished first for Heywood House, followed by Grace in second place and Pippa finishing third.
Jess won the the Year 5 race for Clayton House. Felicity finished second and Fifi third.
Finally in the Year 6 girls race it was Charlotte E in winning position for Clayton House followed by Ayaat in second place and Laila and Dulcie in joint third.
Inter House Cross Country is a team event with both girls’ and boys’ finishing positions contributing to their House finishing position.

Congratulations to everyone who took part – each of them improved their fitness, demonstrated resilience and, hopefully, had a little fun on the way.
