Junior’s Celebrate Women in Science

7th February 2024

The uptake of sciences is higher in girls’ schools compared to girls in other schools – and science roots are established early. This week, as we celebrate Science Week, our Junior students have been sharing their inspiring science projects about trailblazing female scientists.

Last month, in preparation, Mrs Butterfield delivered an inspiring assembly focussing on trailblazing Women in Science, illuminating the stories of powerhouses such as Katherine Johnson, Valentina Tereshkova, Jane Goodall and Maria Sibylla Merian.

Since then our Junior students have been busily involved in a personal project all about Women in Science. Junior participants have been researching and preparing to present a poster, studying an inspirational Woman in Science.

There have been a range of brilliant entries, researching women in industries such as: astronomy, engineering, and medicine. Well done to our Junior participants!

We hope that this has encouraged the students to discover more about inspirational women throughout history, who have made a significant impact on society and contributed to intellectual discoveries.

All projects are being displayed in St. John’s House library for all students to view and discover more about figures they might not have previously heard about.
