Year 6 and 7 MindRace Competition

22nd March 2023

Challenging students to race to answer challenging questions from every subject area they have studied, Wednesday 22nd March marked the first round of the Wakefield Girls’ MindRace Competition; with mixed teams of Year 6 and 7 students from each House contending to score the most points.

Students were selected for their teams following a qualifying quiz in form time before the half term break. Answering 20 challenging questions covering all of the subjects Wakefield Girls’ has to offer as well as some general knowledge, the five highest scoring students in each House were invited to take part in the Year 6/7 round of the inaugural Wakefield Girls’ MindRace 2023.

Each team had six groups of questions to work through, progressing onto the next question in each group only when they had successfully answered the preceding one. With each group of questions representing a range of related subject areas, there were challenging applications of Chemistry, Geography, Physics and Product design; contrasted with taxing applications of ideas from English, History, RPE and Classics.

Exigent questions focused on Biology, PE, Food & Nutrition were just as stimulating as application of concepts from Art, Music, Textiles and Drama.

Well done to all participants from Years 6 and 7. With particular congratulations to the Pink team, who won the highest number of points for an individual team! These five students received Easter eggs as their prizes. Finally, congratulations to Lee who had the combined House score; their two teams worked exceptionally hard to earn the most points overall. Lee’s points will now be added to the overall House total, alongside next week’s Year 8/9, Year 10/11 and Year 12/13/Staff competitions.

Thank you to all of the Sixth Form Student Leaders who helped to organise and run the event; Kumbi, Kinga, Charlotte, Tiffany, Nell, Mathusa, Maisie, Molly, Makenna and Mariella.
