Salts Mill Gallery Art Trip

16th May 2022

Year 7 students have been learning more about the artwork of David Hockney at the Salts Mill Gallery, Bradford who are featuring The David Hockney Project,  from February – July.

Our Art Department, Mrs Lister, Mr Hargreaves, Miss Dollive and Mrs Jackson accompanied students to Salts Mill Gallery for a wonderful opportunity to extend their classroom learning about their current David Hockney art project.

The highlight was being able to do some live sketching and direct drawing from the artwork of David Hockney that is displayed in the gallery space,  most notably the 90ft ‘A Year in Normandie’ installation on the top floor of the Mill.

Head of Art, Mrs Varley commented: This was a fantastic way to spend the day exploring the beautiful works by David Hockney beyond the walls of the classroom. We gathered so much inspiration from our visit and we are excited to create our own Summer inspired digital pieces later this term. The students were wonderful, engaged and demonstrated creative curiosity through discussion and live sketching.

We are running an art competition in response to the visit  – watch this space for some of the outcomes !
