What a Great First Half Term at Wakefield Girls’

16th October 2025

The first half-term at Wakefield Girls’ has been one of learning, laughter and achievements, characterised by the exceptional efforts and engagement of all our pupils. This academic year began with joyous Founders’ Day celebrations and continued with inspiring celebration assemblies for each year group and our annual Prize Giving Ceremony, all highlighting outstanding academic and personal achievements and reinforcing our strong, supportive Wakefield Girls’ school community.

Leadership roles are flourishing. Head Girl, Arianna, and her team have fully embraced their duties, notably welcoming many prospective families at Open Morning. They are already planning the Christmas Revue and looking forward to continuing this work and much more next half-term. The new Junior Section Head Girl team, Tilly and Meera, are actively supporting their peers in all year groups, listening and ensuring the Junior pupils have a voice, and helping with the transition to Queen Elizabeth’s School. They wrote and delivered their own speeches for Open Morning and confidently helped lead our first Prep Harvest Festival assembly. These roles are vital in empowering our pupils to develop independence and leadership long after leaving Wakefield Girls’.

Pupils immersed themselves in exciting learning experiences, from the Year 13 Biology field trip to Filey and Scarborough, studying limpets and the distribution of seaweed, to the invaluable Year 7 Residential at YMCA Lakeside, where pupils built resilience, friendship and teamwork through activities like abseiling and bushcraft. Our Junior Section’s Outdoor Education programme further nurtures a wide variety of skills and an appreciation for nature through orienteering and team-building challenges. I hear it is always a fun and engaging lesson and all the pupils have really enjoyed themselves this half-term.

Beyond the classroom, our commitment to empowering our pupils to achieve their best and find their individual paths, continued with joint careers talks alongside QEGS, featuring insights from alumni Alex Bluett on law and professional musician James Robinson kindly coming back in to speak to our pupils. Our School community’s generosity shone through this half-term as the Charities Committee successfully raised £241.15 for the Forget Me Not Hospice. Out on the sports field, the dedication of our athletes resulted in dominant victories for both the U13 and U16 Netball teams.

Thank you all for a wonderful start to the year and to pupils , staff and families for making our Wakefield Girls’ school community so special.
