Our Year 3 pupils recently swapped the classroom for spades, soil and rocks at Meanwood Urban Valley Farm, where they got hands-on with Science and Geography!
The beautiful farm provided the perfect setting for pupils to enhance their understanding of the natural world, focusing on the properties of rocks and soil.
The trip offered a great opportunity for our pupils to explore the properties of rocks and soil first hand. They closely investigated different rock types and had the chance to study the fascinating process of weathering and how it affects them.
Developing their practical, hands-on learning, the afternoon saw the pupils utilise the farm classrooms for a range of engaging experiments. The highlight was definitely Creating their very own wormeries using the farm’s soil! The pupils were thrilled to take these back to school to continue observing their habitats.
All the pupils got thoroughly ‘stuck in,’ demonstrating excellent knowledge of rock features and a genuine love for exploring the farm to collect the data they needed!
Our Year 3 pupils were an absolute credit to Wakefield Girls’. They displayed wonderful manners, put in tremendous effort throughout the entire day, and truly represented the school brilliantly. Well done, Year 3!
