Year 7 have the conquered the outdoors at YMCA Lakeside

24th September 2025

From Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th September, Our Year 7 pupils swapped their classrooms for the breathtaking scenery of the Lake District, enjoying two nights of adventure and team building at YMCA Lakeside.

Arriving on Wednesday morning, five groups launched straight into an action packed programme that included climbing and abseiling, bushcraft, archery, the thrilling Blue Tubes, and the ever popular raft building challenge. Evenings brought the chance to explore with orienteering and to relax around the campfire, sharing stories under the stars.

For many, the highlight was the chance to push personal boundaries and take on challenges outside of their comfort zone. “It pushed me to my limits and made me realise what my abilities were,” said Rahma. Millie agreed: “You cannot overcome a fear before you have had a chance to try it! I used to hate getting muddy but now I love it.”

The Blue Tubes proved both exciting and messy. “Me and my friends did a mud fight together and it was really funny!” laughed Nemisha. For others, raft building brought surprises: “I was so surprised when the raft floated, but when I went for a swim it was absolutely freezing,” recalled Layla.

As the trip drew to a close on Friday afternoon, pupils returned home tired, muddy and brimming with confidence. “It was a 10/10 experience!” summed up Lily.

The Year 7 residential at YMCA Lakeside was more than just an outdoor adventure: it was a celebration of courage, teamwork and the friendships that will carry  our Year 7 pupils all the way through school.
