Students were recently inspired by a virtual visit from alumna Neena Dougar, who shared her impressive journey in computer science and software engineering from New York City. Neena revisited her path, from facing challenges, travelling with friends to achieving significant triumphs, including her acceptance to the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She emphasised the importance of taking chances, noting that she almost didn’t apply to MIT due to its competitive admissions process. Her MIT experience, studying Computer Science and Software Engineering, proved both inspiring and impactful.
Neena’s career journey included three internships, notably at Facebook where she contributed to the global product that many of us use everyday. She shared invaluable advice for students considering a tech career, highlighting the diverse opportunities available. She explained how her experience in a large company led her to seek a smaller, more agile environment where she could further develop her skills. She found this at Lightstep, a startup later acquired by a larger organisation, where she eventually became a Tech Lead.
Neena encouraged students to explore various paths, embrace challenges, and seize every opportunity. Her insights into coding and innovation motivated students and opened their eyes to the dynamic world of technology. We are extremely grateful for Neena’s time and experience, and look forward to seeing our students pursue successful careers in the tech industry, continuing to empower our young people in STEM.
