Year 10 Visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

23rd September 2024

On Thursday, September 19th, the Textiles department organised an inspiring trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for 23 Year 10 students. The students participated in an interactive workshop led by renowned screen-printing artist Sarah Jayne Palmer.

The morning began with an outdoor session in the scenic grounds of the park, where students explored different textures and life-drawing methods. They also gained insight into the sculptures on display, including a piece by acclaimed British artist Barbara Hepworth, who has a strong connection to the region.

Following a brief lunch, the group headed to The Hayloft Studio. There, Sarah Jayne Palmer gave a hands-on demonstration, guiding the students as they created their own screen prints using leaves and stencils. The students’ creative efforts resulted in impressive works of art, with each piece showcasing the techniques they had learned.

The trip proved to be an invaluable experience for the students, providing them with new skills and inspiration to apply to their GCSE portfolios.
