The Empowering Experience at Wakefield Girls’

27th June 2024

Let’s face it, there’s a world beyond the classroom –  we always remember that and aim to take our students further so they are ready for it.  With this in mind, our stretching academic curriculum is enriched with an Experience Week. This week focuses on service, entrepreneurship and skill building through fun opportunities to be courageous and resilient, to grow in confidence, to try new things and to learn by doing.   It’s a dedicated time for our students to support, to innovate and to develop leadership and community skills.  The combination of these elements with academic learning is what truly matters and is key to success, both now and in the future. Here are some highlights from the week:

  • Community Projects: Students participated in community service activities in support of CAP, including environmental clean-ups and organising donation drives. These projects helped them understand the importance of giving back and fostered a sense of responsibility and empathy. This interaction provided them with a broader perspective on societal roles and responsibilities.
  • Entrepreneurship Workshops: Engaging workshops were held to teach students the basics of entrepreneurship. They worked in teams to brainstorm, develop, and pitch their business ideas, gaining valuable insights into the world of business and innovation.
  • Skill-Building Activities: A range of activities, from coding and chemistry to arts and performance, allowed students to explore new interests and develop practical skills. These sessions were designed to be both educational and enjoyable, encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
  • Leadership and Teamwork Challenges: Team-building exercises and leadership challenges were a major focus, with activities such as obstacle courses, group projects, and strategic games. These experiences taught students the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and leadership.

Alumnae and industry experts contribute to this exciting week, providing students with real world expertise, advice, insight and guidance.

Throughout Experience Week, Year 10 are supported to take their first steps into the world of work with a week long work experience in the field of their choice.

Experience Week has been a tremendous success, providing our students with the chance to grow both personally and academically. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how these experiences will shape their future endeavours.
