On Monday 13th May, Year 4 visited Fairburn Ings RSPB Reserve in West Yorkshire, to deepen their knowledge and understanding about living things and their habitats.
The girls completed a fabulous minibeast hunt in the woodland and the meadow. They had to carefully search for different insects, record their findings accurately and note any interesting features about the insects and their environment. They also used data-logging equipment to identify and measure moisture, sunlight and temperature changes within the different habitats.
Students also took part in some pond dipping, which they thoroughly enjoyed. They listened carefully to the instructions and considerately caught and observed a variety of minibeasts in their nets. The girls were also able to use classification keys to identify what they had found and were then able to explain how they had come to that conclusion.
Overall, the day was extremely exciting and saw our students step out of their comfort zone to take risks and explore nature alongside their peers.
