Spelling Bee Final 2024

11th April 2024

Yesterday morning, 10th April, the Junior Section held their second Spelling Bee. Following the great success of last year’s events, students in Years 3-6 were extremely keen to participate in the competition and win some much coveted House points. With the winner receiving 200 points, second place 150 points, third receiving 100 points, and fourth getting 50 points – this was a great opportunity for students to represent their House and have a big impact on the House rankings!

The first round of the Spelling Bee was a written spelling test, completed by all students. After marking, teachers then selected the top 20 performing students to go to the second round which was a spoken Spelling Bee, in which students competed against their own House members for the honour of representing their House in the final. The two highest achievers in each House were at the final, held yesterday morning in Jubilee Hall.

In the final, students were called up to the front of the stage and asked by their teachers to recite the spelling of a word. Students recited the spelling through the microphone, in front of their peers who were sat in the hall keenly encouraging them on. The environment was eerily quiet to allow students to concentrate on their spellings, but it was a tense and exciting place to be.

The placed results were as follows:

In Year 3, Alexis came in first, with Rosa in second place and Sophia in third place.

In Year 4, Meera took the first place spot, with Isla in second. Jiya came in third place.

In Year 5, Priyah came first, with Layla in second place and Emie in third place.

In Year 6, Cayla was the winner, closely followed in second place by Haviisha. Sienna came in third place.

House points will be awarded directly to the houses.

Congratulations to all the finalists who competed in the Spelling Bee! There were some extremely tricky words that students faced, but they remained cool, calm and collected and performed remarkably.
