Celebrating Music at WGHS: Junior Spring Concert 2024

20th March 2024

Tuesday 19th March marked our annual Junior Spring Concert, which was an amazing celebration of all things musical in the Wakefield Girls’ Junior Section.

An enormous variety of music was provided from our instrumental and vocal ensembles: Junior Brass Group marched in from the back, Junior Percussion Ensemble gave a rousing and rhythmic performance, Junior Flute Group provided an elegant performance, Suzuki Violins played a highly complicated programme involving all pupils in all items.

Excitingly, we had a debut performance by Four Hands, our newly formed group for piano players. Junior Concert Band gave the concert a lively start, Junior String Ensemble performed a highly entertaining and upbeat performance, both Under 9 Choir and Under 11 Choir sang beautifully.

We also invited once again our Year 2 Choir from Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory School to come and perform and they sang with so much verve and energy, and for the first time ever our Year 2 Suzuki Violins, who had only been learning since October, featured in the Suzuki Violin spot. Later, we had the pleasure of listening to performances by our two highly talented Young Musicians of the Year, Fei Fei and Cayla. All our pianists relished the opportunity to perform on a grand piano!

The concert culminated in a massed choral item involving all 140 pupils that were taking part and of course with an opportunity for parents to sing along as well. It was a real night to remember, and so easy to forget that the pupils involved are only in Juniors – we are lucky to have so much talent and musical enthusiasm in our school.

We are grateful to FOSJH for providing refreshments and laying on a much appreciated coffee and tea van for parents before the concert and during the interval!
