Dinner With Your Daughter Event

5th March 2024

Following an immensely successful launch of our ‘Dinner with your Daughter’ event during Autumn term this academic year – we have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Year 3 and Year 5 parents back into Wakefield Girls’ Junior Section this week, for our second event.

On Monday 4th March we welcomed our Year 5 parents, who enjoyed a delicious lunch of Mexican beef chilli or mixed bean and roasted vegetable burrito. Side dishes available were: tortilla chips, Mexican baked rice, sweetcorn & peppers, red cabbage slaw, salsa and soured cream. Additionally, there is always a jacket potato or pasta option available. For dessert there was yoghurt, fruit pots or ‘birthday cake’ traybake.

Subsequently, our Year 3 parents joined us on Tuesday 5th for a scrumptious serving of wholemeal, homemade Margherita or chicken pizza, alongside new potatoes and mixed vegetables. As always, the salad bar was overflowing with fresh salad leaves, vegetables, pulses and grains to add diversity to students’ plate. For dessert there was yoghurt, fruit pots or flapjack.

These lunchtime events provide a wonderful opportunity for our parents to get a real taste of what life is like for our Junior students, especially what the food provision is like here at Wakefield Girls’ which is an undeniably important aspect of our everyday lives!

Our caterers Holroyd Howe are diligent about the menu they provide for our girls – rotating the menu every term to appropriately fit the season’s offerings, and to ensure students’ get a varied and rich array of meals throughout the year.  To avoid repetition and monotony, the menus are rotated every three weeks. Parents had the opportunity to speak to our Holroyd Howe General Catering Manager, Mr J Kirwan to discuss the planning and nutritional considerations involved in our menu design and answer any questions they may have.

At Wakefield Girls’, we strongly encourage our students to express their opinions and have a say in matters that affect them. As part of this, they can provide feedback about the menu and lunch provisions through their school council representatives.

We can’t wait for our next ‘Dinner with your Daughter’ event which will take place in two weeks time: 20th and 21st March for our Year 6 and Year 4 parents, respectively.
