House Music Celebration with Award Winning Opera Singer

27th March 2023

Last night, GCSE and A-Level music students performed for an audience of family and friends, and guest adjudicator, opera singer Sarah Ogden. To open the evening our String Quartet who performed Waltz by Grieg and Air by Johann Sebastian Bach.

There were thirteen solo performances, by students from Years 10-13, and it was a great opportunity for students to gain some performance experience in front of an audience and experts within the music industry.

We enjoyed a variety of performances:

Alero – Cradle Song by Ni Hongjin, piano.

Aimee – August by Taylor Swift, voice.

Leina – Nocturne by John Field arr. Evelyn Rothwell, oboe.

Martha – The Pink Panther by Henry Mancini arr. Arthur Frackenpohl, alto saxophone.

Isobel – A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square by Manning Sherwin arr. Eric Maschwitz, voice.

Lucy – Sicilienne by Paradis, cello.

Alice – Concertino for trombone 2nd movement by Larsson, trombone.

Eden – Here Comes the Sun, by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, drums.

Imogen – Blackbird by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, guitar.

Manya – Jealous by Labrinth, voice.

Grace – Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham, alto saxophone.

Jessica – Trumpet Concerto mvt. 2 by Haydn, trumpet.

Antonia – The Cave by Mumford and Sons, voice and guitar.

To end the evening the String Quartet performed 1st mvt of St Paul’s Suite by Holst.

Sarah spoke with students and provided them with positive feedback about their performances. She was very impressed with the standard of performance and she offered lots of valuable advice about stage presence and communication with an audience. At the end of the evening she had the difficult task of selecting her favourite performances, and were awarded trophies for Intermediate and Senior Musicians of the Year.

Congratulations to Alero and Grace for their brilliant performances which awarded them KS4 and KS5 Musician of the Year. They both receive 50 House Points each for their Houses Blakey and Lee.
