U18 Indoor Hockey Team Crowned North East Champions

30th November 2022
Our U18 Indoor Hockey squad took part in the North East Finals on 30 November. In their first match, they played St. Peters and thanks to two goals from Leah and one from Lucy B, were able to win comfortably 3-1. The goals kept on coming in the next two matches with a 5-0 win against Yarm followed by an excellent 5-0 versus a strong Scarborough College side. It was fantastic to see goal contributions from almost all of our players in the group stage, with Captain Jess finishing well along with Henny, Lucy H and Lucy C all getting on the scoresheet.
Our team then progressed to the semi-finals where they faced a tricky GSAL side. Despite some early nerves, Wakefield Girls’  were able to come away victorious thanks to goals from Lucy B and Jess! This meant we qualified for the final where we once again met our old foes RGS Newcastle in a repeat of last year’s final. This was the toughest side that our team had faced, but presented the opportunity to demonstrate our defensive prowess. Some good work from Hollie in goal, along with goals from Leah and Lucy B ensured that the game finished 2-0 to Wakefield Girls’.  This meant that we were crowned North East Champions and will now progress to the National Finals in January!
We couldn’t be prouder of all of the hard work that our students have put into their indoor hockey this year. Despite studying for their A Levels and GCSEs they have trained every week during EDGE to ensure that they were the most well drilled team on the day, a sentiment which was echoed by the organisers of the competition. Well done to everyone involved!
