Languages Week

29th September 2022

The very first European Day of Languages was held in 2001 and we’ve been celebrating all languages this week with our wonderful modern Foreign Languages Team and students.

Celebrations kicked off on Monday with a lunchtime sing-a-long and enthusiastic students came together throughout the week watch foreign language films and to showcase their talents in a language themed Talent Show. Thank you for bringing our community together to our dancers: Saachi and Liza for their Bollywood dance and Imogen for her African dancing; our singers: Sheaa for singing in Sanskrit, Zara singing an Italian song, Brividi by Mahmood & BLANCO, Le’Shantey singing us a song, Odo, from her home language -Twi and Anniyah for singing the song, Pasoori, in Urdu; and our storyteller: Lilianna for reading to us in Polish.

It was timely to announce our languages prize winners participating in Routes into Languages throughout the summer. From writing postcards and texting friends to watching YouTube and films all in foreign languages, students really did immerse themselves in independent language learning.
