On Thursday 23rd June the school was finally able to host a full Sports Day for the first time in a number of years. It was a beautiful sunny day and students were excited to be able to demonstrate their sporting prowess to their peers.
The day started off with the sprint heats in the morning, with five students from each House in each year group competing to see who would represent the House in the afternoon’s A, B and C finals.
In the afternoon, the whole school made their way to the athletics track for the main event. After a quick picnic lunch, the events began in earnest. The finals of the 100m, 200m and 800m began on the track and the Long Jump, High Jump, Discus, Shot and Javelin events began in the field. It was fabulous to see the camaraderie on the day, with students cheering on their own year groups as well as those from other age groups from their House. There were some lovely moments on the track in particular, with students showing huge support for athletes finishing in the latter stages of the 800m.
Some particular highlights from the track included a very tight Year 10 200m and 800m final, as well as Libby Cree going for the record (but just missing out by one second) in the Year 8 800m. In the field we saw fabulously close competitions in the Year 8 Discus and Year 9 High Jump as well as Hettie Tidy throwing a record breaking 19.51m to win the Year 7 Javelin.
The day finished off with some excellent House relay events for each year group to round off a superb day off sport. It was lovely to see a large number of parents in attendance as well and their support was greatly appreciated with the students. The scores are now in and the final results will be announced next Tuesday when we all come together again for our House Day In !
