We recognise distinctive abilities and potential through our Scholars Programme which is designed to nurture talent and ability. A number of scholarships are available to students entering our Senior section and Sixth Form. Our Scholars Programme is an integral part of their academic provision, preparing each scholar for exceptional academic performance. Participation in our Scholars Programme is also open to any Wakefield Girls’ student looking for extra stretch and challenge.
Our Scholars Programme consists of the components below.
Scholars from years 7 – 11 attend a minimum of three lectures during the year. Topics are published in advance so scholars can select those of most interest to them. A Q and A session follows all lectures to provoke discussion and reflection.
Scholars must enter at least three competitions or events during the school year. Competitions and events are published in advance so scholars can select those of most interest to them. There are currently over 15 competitions to select from covering a wide range of subject areas.
Our Scholars meet termly as a group with a Year 12 scholar who offers guidance and support.
Scholars in Key Stage 3 participate in a Wakefield Project Qualification. Announced in Summer Term for completion over the summer holidays, Key Stage 3 scholars independently research and either write an essay or make a product based on their research. On return to school, scholars meet with a Sixth Form mentor and scholar for advice with their project, to be finished by October half term. All projects are assessed, moderated and celebrated at a Celebration Ceremony Afternoon with parents.
