As we approach the well deserved half-term break, it’s been another incredibly busy half-term at Wakefield Girls’! Our students have been excelling in a multitude of areas, creating memories and celebrating achievements across the school. Here is a quick snapshot of some of the events and activities that have taken place.
Our Year 9 enjoyed a fantastic ski trip to Folgarida, Italy over Easter, with both beginners and advanced skiers making the most of the stunning Dolomites. Meanwhile, back in school, our current and incoming Head Girl teams met for a motivating breakfast with Mrs Tingle, planning their collaborative leadership and working with the current head girl team for the year ahead.
We shared a special Loved Ones’ Afternoon Tea with Year 11, a heartwarming glimpse into school life before their GCSE exams, complete with musical entertainment and a successful raffle raising £160 for Wakefield Hospice. Year 7 also had an educational visit to Salts Mill where they demonstrated excellent maturity and a genuine passion for David Hockey’s artwork. They spent time exploring the various exhibitions and even took part in some sketching gaining inspiration from David Hockney’s vibrant works.
We also bid a fond farewell to our wonderful Modern Language Assistants, Linda, Claudio, and Mickael, who have enriched our school community and Languages Department with their cultural contributions. Their impact has been felt across year groups, and they will be greatly missed.
The stage came alive with our WGSF Summer Concerts and the electrifying Annual Dance Evening, showcasing the exceptional talent and creativity of our musicians and dancers. On Earth Day, our students combined baking skills with fundraising, raising nearly £32 for charity, with Alexa from 7SAH crowned the star baker.
Our Year 8 Foundation LEAP event challenged entrepreneurial minds as students devised new airline subsidiaries for British Airways, tackling real-world business concepts. The Year 13 Leavers’ Ball was a night to be remembered and provided a dazzling celebration for our Year 13 students, marking the end of their unforgettable journey before they head into their final A-Level push!
Our Fantastic Year 6 proudly received their Class of 2025 Hoodies, a special moment acknowledging their dedication and achievements in the Junior section as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey with us. Meanwhile, our Year 11 girls enjoyed a well-deserved and fun-filled Leavers’ Celebration before their study leave, complete with treats, awards, and karaoke, proudly sporting their Class of 2025 hoodies.Our Year 13 students also brought fun and laughter to the school with their energetic Amarillo Assembly in fancy dress. They then marked their final day with a heartfelt leavers assembly and a special lunch, surrounded by staff who have supported them throughout their time here.
Year 5 made unforgettable memories on their Robinwood residential trip, conquering climbing walls, mastering archery, navigating the nightline, and soaring on the trapeze. Birthdays were celebrated, fears were faced, and incredible teamwork was on display!
Our young athletes in Year 4 showcased their talents at an Athletics event against Sheffield High, with impressive performances across a range of disciplines. The cricket season is off to a great start with our U11 team’s impressive match against Hill House, filled with boundaries and excellent teamwork.
The WGSF Arabian Nights production captivated audiences with its enchanting storytelling, a true testament to the hard work of our KS3 production team. In the Junior section, our Stretch & Challenge Club proudly presented their fascinating research projects to family and friends.
Year 5 have recently gained confidence in cycling and bike safety during their Bikeability programme, mastering essential road safety and bike maintenance skills. And last Friday we celebrated a year of sporting excellence at our Sports Presentation Evening, welcoming back Olympian alumna Leah Crisp and recognising the incredible achievements and dedication of our talented athletes across all disciplines.
What a busy and rewarding half-term it has been! We hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break.
