We are incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to hear from alumna Zaina Khan this morning during our assembly. Zaina, a former WGHS student, is a passionate advocate for positive mental health and well-being. She works within the mental health sector, collaborating with various charities, media platforms, and brands to spark meaningful conversations around mental health, break down stigmas, and empower individuals to prioritise their well-being.
The assembly took on an informal style, with Zaina and Ms. Keegan-Phipps discussing Zaina’s career journey, the challenges she has faced, and the remarkable successes she has achieved along the way. It was inspiring to hear about the impactful work Zaina is doing, particularly with charities like CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), which offers a vital helpline for those struggling with mental health, and the Muslim Youth Helpline, which has made a real difference by providing support to young people and receiving 10,000 sign ups to therapy to help those struggling with their mental health.
Zaina also works with well-known brands, such as Neom, which focuses on easing anxiety through their ‘calming pen’ – a roll-on product that uses essential oils to help manage stress. In addition to her charity work, Zaina hosts a weekly radio show at Penistone FM, where she shares positivity and supports the mental well-being of others by doing something she loves.
We are so grateful to Zaina for taking the time to speak with us today and inspire our current students.. Her dedication to improving mental health and well-being is truly inspiring. We are all incredibly proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see what incredible journey lies ahead for her. Thank you, Zaina!
