Students, parents, and staff at Wakefield Girls’ High School, one of the North’s top 10 independent schools, are celebrating today following achievements on A Level Results Day 2024.

Over two-thirds of the students at the school, part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, achieved A*-B grades at A Level. Among these, 10 students celebrated achieving at least 3 A*-A grades.

Once again Wakefield Girls’ ambitious students have secured places to study a variety of disciplines at their first-choice universities, including prestigious institutions such as King’s College London, Bristol, Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Loughborough, Edinburgh, Warwick, York and Exeter. Disciplines range from Classics, Law, Psychology, Dentistry, Science with an increasing number with career end goals such as Physiotherapy, early-childhood education, professional policing and nursing. Notably, 70% of students applying for university secured places at their first-choice universities, along with 5 of our students going onto outstanding apprenticeship opportunities with companies like A-Eon, Bevan Brittan (800 applicants and only 1 place!), Morrisons or Nestle.

Our accomplished Year 13 pupils include:

Head Girl Clara Elliott has been awarded A*A, A in her A Levels and a place to study at Norland, world famous for their exceptional early years degree training, Clara will build on the leadership, empathy and determination she has demonstrated at WGHS.

Deputy Head Girl Amina attained A, A, A in her A levels results and is taking a gap year to develop a wider experience base before moving onto study dentistry.

Bayan earned 3 A*’s and an A and will now study medicine at Leeds University.

Anna celebrates success in her A Levels with grades A*, A, A  and appointment to a highly competitive law apprenticeship at Bevan Brittan, after multiple rounds of selection.

Emily, having attained A*, A* A, is eschewing the traditional university pathway, and is looking forward to applying her exceptional understanding of chemistry and nutrition to her food science apprenticeship at Nestle, York.

Lucy’s inquisitive nature and drive to understand the most challenging of concepts has enabled her to achieve A*, A, A in her A Levels and Lucy is now preparing study dentistry at Liverpool University

Holly Bestwick secured 2 x A*, 1 x A in her A Levels and is looking forward to exploring Economics and Finance at Newcastle university.

Abigail Gatenby will be heading to study physiotherapy at Birmingham University after attaining 3 x A.

Esmé Randall proudly takes up her place to study Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Warwick after attaining 2 x A*, 1 x A.

As highlighted in the Sunday Times Parent Power Schools Guide, Wakefield Girls’ A Level results consistently rank among the best in the North for independent schools.
