Key Meeting with Early Leaders

23rd November 2023

On Thursday 23rd November, our Junior Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl made the short journey to Wakefield Grammar Pre-Preparatory School to meet with the QEGS’ Junior Head/Deputy Boy and the Pre-Prep Head Girl and Boy team.

Chaired by our Head of Wakefield Grammar Pre-preparatory School, Emma Gill, the meeting involved students discussing the leadership roles at both Junior schools, focussing on what their roles consist of, what they like most and brainstorming how the leadership role could potentially evolve. ‘Being responsible’, ‘doing speeches’, ‘doing kind things for others’, ‘going to meetings’ and ‘getting to help with jobs’ were amongst the highlights for our current young leaders.

Leadership is an important part of life at Wakefield Girls’ High School. We want our students to feel confident to use their voice and advocate for changes they want to see in the world – and this is something we facilitate. Our Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl have lots of opportunities to flourish and gain confidence in their leadership role, such as speaking at major school events such as Speech Day, Founders Day, Remembrance services and Open Morning. They also carry out jobs day to day, which include helping to reset the dining hall during lunch duty and supporting students in Year 3-5.

It was brilliant to hear that our students enjoy having responsibilities and working with other students and staff to help ensure our school community runs smoothly and thrives.

We look forward to having another leadership meeting between Pre-Prep and the Junior schools in Spring Term.
