On Thursday 22nd June we were very excited to hold our annual Sports Day. This event is a highlight of the Wakefield Girls’ sporting calendar as it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight our students’ sporting prowess, with family and friends watching and cheering on from the sidelines.
Thankfully, it was a bright and sunny day, which only added to the mood of excitement and anticipation as students prepared themselves for their events.
The busy day began with the sprint heats in the morning, with five students from each House in each year group competing to see who would represent the House in the afternoon’s A, B and C finals.
In the afternoon, the whole school made their way to the athletics track for the main event. After enjoying a sociable picnic lunch, the events began in earnest. The finals of the 100m, 200m and 800m began on the track and the Long Jump, High Jump, Discus, Shot and Javelin events began in the field.
The day came to a close with some excellent House relay events for each year group, to round off a superb day of sport. A highlight for many students was the first ever Staff Races, with Mr Wilson coming in first place. It was great to see so many of our teachers get involved and show their competitive side.
As always, it was lovely to see such a large number of parents in attendance, to show their support for their daughters, it was greatly appreciated by the students. A big thank you and congratulations to everyone who competed in the day’s events.
A special congratulations to our Victrix Ludorum who won both a track and field event: Year 7 student Georgia, Year 8 students Hettie and Alana, Year 9 students Libby and Abi, and Year 10 student Year 10 Sascha. Similarly, a big well done to our students who beat long-standing school records: Dulcie who equalled the Y7 High Jump record and Hettie who broke the Y8 Javelin record!
All of the scores accumulated throughout the day are now in and the final results will be announced during our celebration assembly.
