In the second-ever Inter House Cross Country event, which sees Wakefield Girls’ and QEGS students unite to compete together against the opposing Houses. 

Although not having the same names, Wakefield Girls’ and QEGS Houses are unified by their colour; hence, WGHS Blakey and QEGS Bentley (yellow), compete together to try and get as many points as possible.

It was a bright, crisp afternoon when students began their runs around the QEGS playing field. But there was no drizzle or frost, meaning it was perfect conditions for spectators to come and cheer on the students! Even the sun peered out from behind the clouds to encourage students to keep on running!

Year 3 and 4 students were given the task of running just under 2km, whilst Year 5 and 6 runners had the challenge of running 2.5km, no mean feat for their little legs! Yet, all students ran superb races and showed resilience and determination. 

The Year 3 girls were first up to race. Thea ran extremely well and landed the first place spot, followed by Isabella in second place and Arianna in third place.

Next up was the Year 4 girls.  Poppy came in first, with Isla coming in second place and Orla finishing third.

In the Year 5 race, Rosa ran a great race and managed to achieve the first position. Luisa finished in second and Laiha in third.

Finally in the Year 6 girls race. In a very intense race, Felix came in first, Elle came second and Jess G came third.

The event was very competitive, with students desperately trying to grasp those coveted House points. Overall, the scores revealed some exciting results! Former champions of the Inter House cross-country, Blakey, who came in first place at last year’s event, had some tough luck at this year’s event and came in fourth place. In third place was Mackie, in the same position as last year. Second place was Clayton. Finally, the 2023 Champions of the Inter House cross-country event was Lee! The House experienced some tough races last year, ending up in fourth place, but clearly put in a lot of hard work and resilience and managed to climb up all the way to first place!

Congratulations to all of the runners that took part, and we look forward to seeing how everyone runs next year – who knows which House could end up on top?
