LAMDA Exam Success

Congratulations to 36 junior and senior students who took their external LAMDA ( London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) exams in school during April, achieving the highest levels of award: 6 Merits and 30 Distinctions.
Students had to perform poetry and prose from memory as well as sight reading and technical literary theory. Each student had a poem chosen from the LAMDA set syllabus along with a personal choice, either another poem or a prose selection depending on which grade examination they were entering. Following their performance, each student discussed the meaning and content of their choices with the examiner as well as the different literary knowledge for each grade.
Poetry selection included poems by Jack Prelutsky, Gareth Owen, Mary Elizabeth Fry and Sylvia Plath and prose passages from works by Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Jill Murphy, Peter J Murray and Michael Morpurgo to name a few. Sight reading, sonnets and Shakespeare were included in the higher grades.
The girls all worked extremely hard for their exams and their efforts have been rewarded with a set of fantastic, well deserved results.
While examination success is to be celebrated, the benefits of speech and drama go beyond results and performing. As well as using social skills and building friendship groups, students grow in confidence and self-esteem with improved reading skills and comprehension, diction, presentation skills, vocal projection, enhanced memory skills, literary knowledge, stagecraft, breath control and concentration.
