Life in our school brings memories, opportunities & friendships and we are feeling thankful for our Wakefield community as Christmas approaches. In keeping with tradition, students have performed at Wakefield Cathedral to celebrate Christmas and share what we are thankful for this year. Senior students performed their very special Carol Service and junior students performed a beautiful Christmas Concert for Wakefield Hospice and a wonderful Christmas Performance at St Austin’s Church.

It was also a joy to open the doors of QE Hall for a live Christmas Concert.  We are so proud of all students who raised the roof over two evenings with such a variety of outstanding performances.  The concert is a truly memorable event for students to take part in and for parents, relatives and friends to watch. 

Great fun has been had over the last week with celebrations in every year group. From class parties and quizzes, pantomimes to Secret Santa, movie nights and dining out – there has been plenty of festive cheer culminating in our much anticipated annual Christmas Revue performance, written, directed and performed by year 13 students.

Wakefield Girls community spirit has also been sparkling this season.  Some students decided to go on a shopping trip with a charitable twist taking time to choose a gift for a child less fortunate than themselves, wrap it and leave it at the ‘Giving Tree’ Appeal at The Ridings Centre.  The gifts will be shared between Forget Me Not Child Hospice, Groundworks, Normanton Food Bank, Break The Silence and Wakefield Soup Kitchen.  Our school Student Union were also in full force with smiling faces as they coordinated Christmas letters, written by year 7, to send to patients spending Christmas in Pinderfields Hospital in conjunction with the hospital voluntary services team who kindly facilitated distribution.

The exceptional sense of our students’ community has been felt as always and thank you to everyone who joined with us and helped to make our traditions even more special.
