Supporting our Outstanding Netball teams

20th March 2025

Last weekend, our U16 and U19 Netball teams demonstrated exceptional skill and strong teamwork at the England Netball National Schools Finals. In this challenging one-day tournament format, our teams faced off against top schools from across the country in eight fast-paced 14-minute games.

With around 400 schools entering the competition across three age groups, Wakefield Girls’ was one of only five schools to progress to the finals in multiple age groups, a notable achievement in itself. Reaching the finals for the fourth consecutive year – something only a handful of schools have managed – is a testament to their dedication and hard work. Our teams played some impressive netball, defeating strong opponents such as Cheadle, Bromsgrove, and Redmaids, and the U19 squad was honored with the England Netball Endeavour Award for their outstanding sportsmanship.

The effort, grit and positivity from our players prove what wonderful athletes and young people they are. We are immensely proud of all of them. We are also grateful for the encouragement from staff and parents – your constant support makes us very eager to make it to the finals five years in a row next year!

Today, the entire school community gathered in the Jubilee Hall to show their support for our U15 Netball team as they competed in the highly anticipated Sisters in Sport U15 Cup final. Facing the top four schools in our region, our team displayed admirable resilience and determination. The atmosphere in the hall was electric, filled with the enthusiastic cheers and encouragement of their fellow peers.

The overwhelming support shown by both students and staff highlights the strong sense of community, pride, and empowerment that defines our school. We are incredibly proud of all our netball teams and admire their dedication, skills, and impressive achievements.

Mrs Tingle also congratulated them all, saying: “I am immensely proud of our netball teams’ achievements. It’s a source of great joy for the entire school to see you represent us with such pride, showcasing your exceptional skill and teamwork in every match you play. Keep up the amazing work, you are all remarkable sportswomen, and you should be very proud of your achievements.”
