Wakefield Girls’ Junior section came together to celebrate World Book Day with a day filled with inspiring figures and engaging activities. The day began with an assembly, where students proudly showcased their creative costumes, each representing individuals who have made significant contributions to the world.
From intrepid explorers and brilliant scientists to renowned authors and influential historical figures, the assembly was a visual testament to the power of inspiration. Students admired each other’s imaginative outfits, and celebrated the diverse range of role models represented. Best costume certificates were awarded, recognising the exceptional effort and creativity displayed.
The assembly also featured a captivating whole-school quiz, challenging students to guess the identities of remarkable individuals based on illustrations from the “Little People, Big Dreams” book series. This interactive activity fostered a deeper appreciation for the lives and achievements of these inspiring figures.
To further promote a love of reading across the foundation, our Year 6 students visited the Pre-Prep to share their favorite stories with the younger children. This inter-age reading experience fostered a sense of community and ignited a passion for storytelling in both the readers and listeners.
In addition, students participated in a book swap, exchanging reading materials from home with their classmates. This initiative encouraged the discovery of new authors and genres, fostering a shared love of reading and promoting a vibrant reading culture within the school.
World Book Day provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate the power of books, imagination, and the inspiring individuals who have shaped our world. The day’s activities fostered a sense of community, encouraged a love of reading, and empowered students to dream big.
