Founders’ Day Celebration, 2024

16th September 2024

This year marks the 146th anniversary of our school, celebrated with the same strong sense of community and collective spirit that has always defined us. Students from Year 3 to Year 13, along with Head Ms Boyes and their teachers, gathered in Jubilee Hall for Founders’ Day, reflecting on our rich history since the school’s foundation in 1878. Though we have continually evolved, our mission remains to provide a complete education that brings out the best in each student.

The day honoured past and present students and staff, recognising the lasting impact they have had on making the school a vibrant and enriching place. The celebration included stirring musical performances from the senior brass band, Secret Choir, U11 and KS3 Choirs, along with speeches from key figures including Councillor Darren Byford, the Mayor of Wakefield; Kathryn Morgan, Chair of Wakefield Girls’ Education Committee and Vice Chair of WGHS Governing Board, our Head Girls and other student speakers.  A special thanks goes to guest speaker former Head Girl (2023) Hooriya Fida-Hussain, who returned with many early accomplishments in global studies and humanitarian work after an inspiring year at UCL, Stony Brooke University (New York) and a 3 months placement at The British Red Cross.

Following the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a fabulous BBQ in the Quad, filled with music, dancing, and a celebration of our history, achievements, and the friendships that continue to define our school.
