Year 8 Charity Afternoon

19th June 2023

During the afternoon of Friday 16th June, all Year 8 students came together to take part in a number of fun activities to celebrate completing Year 8 and to raise money for a deserving cause.

Last term a representative from Yorkshire Air Ambulance gave a presentation to Year 8 pupils during a PSHE lesson, to inform them about what they do, how they run as an organisation and how they rely upon charitable donations. They also spoke with students about career opportunities in the air ambulance service. In response to this talk, Year 8 students decided they wanted to raise money for this deserving charity during their Charity Afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, all students took part in a sponsored fancy dress 1km fun run, which they had been collecting donations for over the past couple of weeks. It was extremely hot weather, so we encouraged students to have lots of water and take it at their own pace. Thankfully, many students had thought ahead and were well-prepared, bringing water guns which made for a refreshing and exciting run.

Following their fun run, Year 8 form groups and participated in a variety of fun activities including a general knowledge quiz, dancing and party drinks, a chocolate game, and silly races.

The afternoon was extremely enjoyable for the students involved, participating in team building activities alongside their peers whilst raising money for a fantastic charity. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with this lovely year group and to celebrate the successful year they have had.
