This afternoon the English department hosted the Finalists’ tea party for the Margaret Knott Poetry Competition.
This is the inaugural year of the competition, generously supported by Wakefield Girls’ alumna, Mrs Barabara Hunt. The competition is named after her inspirational English teacher and former Headteacher at Wakefield Girls’, Mrs Margaret Knott.
It was wonderful to have Mr and Mrs Hunt join us for the event via GoogleMeet, where they got to hear the students recite their poems and then for the prize-giving ceremony at the end. We look forward to welcoming them into school soon, to thank them once again for their generous contribution. Similarly, we were delighted to have parents of the finalists join us for the tea party and listen to their children’s recitals.
The overall winner of the competition, awarded the Margaret Knott trophy, is Kinga Ozga, for her poem ‘From Spring to June’. Moreover, congratulations to our winners in Key Stages 2-4: Arushi, Rhiona and Imogen.
