On January 23rd, we welcomed the Onatti Company back to Wakefield Girls’ for another live language performance in Jubilee Hall – this time in German for our Year 9 and 10 German linguists.

The play, Im Alten Saloon, is for 13 – 16 year old students who are learning German and have completed at least one year of German at secondary level.

It was time to saddle up horses and go back to the Wild West. Set in 1856 in a dusty town in the Midwest of America, an old Saloon has ran into financial difficulties and needs to find some money and fast.  The cash prize offered for the city “talent” contest sounds like a great idea – though finding the talent not so easy 🙂  We all enjoyed watching the talent contestant efforts and developing our German language skills at the same time. Ehrlich gesagt, hat mir das Stück Im Alten Saloon sehr gut gefallen und ich habe es sehr humorvoll und einprägsam gefunden! Die Schauspieler waren so realistisch und überzeugend – ich war wirklich beeindruckt. Obwohl das gesamte Stück großartig war, muss ich sagen, dass mir die Stelle am besten gefallen hat, als die Hauptfiguren versucht haben, jemanden zu finden, der Talent für die Talentshow hatte. Ich habe die ganze Zeit gelacht, weil es so lustig war, die Schauspieler tanzen zu sehen. Einige Zuschauer hatten sogar die Möglichkeit, auf die Bühne zu gehen und mitzuspielen. Die Schauspieler haben langsam und deutlich gesprochen, so dass wir verstanden haben, was sie gesagt haben. Durch das Ansehen des deutschen Stücks habe ich mein Verständnis für die Sprache entwickelt. Ich empfehle das Stück Im Alten Saloon, weil es eine fantastische und einzigartige Erfahrung war, ein Stück auf Deutsch zu sehen. Wenn ich die Gelegenheit hätte, würde ich mir auf jeden Fall gern noch einmal ein deutsches Theaterstück wie dieses ansehen.

To be honest, I really liked the play Im Alten Saloon and found it very humorous and memorable! The actors were so realistic and compelling – I was really impressed. While the entire play was great, I have to say that my favorite part was when the main characters were trying to find someone who had talent for the talent show. I laughed the whole time because it was so funny to see the actors dance. Some spectators even had the opportunity to go on stage and play along. The actors spoke slowly and clearly so we understood what they said. By watching the German play, I developed my understanding of the language. I recommend the play Im Alten Saloon because it was a fantastic and unique experience to see a play in German. If I had the opportunity, I would definitely like to see a German play like this again.
