KS4 and 5 House Music Celebration & Musicians of the Year

8th April 2022

On 7th April, we hosted another great evening in Jubilee Hall with our Music Soiree.  Students from Key Stage 4 and 5 performed a piece of their choice for an audience and our guest adjudicator from Wakefield Music Service, Amanda Spalding.  The hall was filled with an eclectic mix of music of Classical, Jazz, Pop and Rock styles as our 13 finalists put on a fabulous show.

Key Stage 4 performances included:

  • Lola Barnecott – Drum Kit Come Together, Lennon and McCartney
  • Alero Boyo – Piano, Changing Times, Heather Hammond
  • Lucy Simmons – Cello Chanson villageoise, Trowell
  • Zara Akhtar – Voice L’ho perduta me meschina, Mozart
  • Isobel Skinner – Flute 2nd and 3rd movements from Sonatina, Járdányi
  • Zaima Farooq – Saxophone 2nd and 3rd movements from Concerto for Alto Saxophone, Ronald Binge

 

Performances from our Sixth Form students included :

  • Eleanor Bowen – Trumpet Tolle Streiche, Waldteufel
  • Lizzie MacKenzie – Cello Minuet, Bach
  • Manya Dhingra – Voice On My Own, Schönberg and Boublil
  • Grace Hillier – Saxophone Georgia On My Mind, Hoagy Carmichael
  • Alexandra Lee – Voice I Boarded the King’s Ship, from Ariel by Jonathan Dove
  • Mia Sedgwick – Flute Variations on a theme by Rossini, Chopin
  • Antonia Maddan – Voice and Guitar Brazil, Declan McKenna

 

The KS4 and KS5 Musician of the Year trophies were awarded for the adjudicator’s favourite performances of the evening. Lucy Simmons won the cup for KS4 Musician of the Year and
Alex Lee won the cup for KS5 Musician of the Year.

 

Our special thanks to Dr. Rachel Mathieson –  former student, parent and teacher –  who joined as our accompanist for the evening.
