Ethos of the Department

Students develop knowledge, understanding and skills through integrated practical, critical and contextual studies that encourage direct engagement with original works and practice.

Students will learn through practical experience and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of sources that inform their creative intentions. Intentions should be realised through purposeful engagement with visual language, visual concepts, media, materials and the application of appropriate techniques and working methods.

Textile design is defined as the creation of designs and products for stitched, printed or decorative textiles that might have a functional or non-functional purpose including:

  • fashion design and illustration
  • costume design
  • constructed textiles
  • printed and dyed textiles
  • surface pattern
  • stitched and/or embellished textiles
  • soft furnishings and/or textiles for interiors
  • digital textiles
  • installed textiles
