World Book Day 2024

8th March 2024

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 7th March and the theme this year was ‘Travel’.

This broad theme ignited the children’s imaginations, and amongst the outfits were pilots, explorers, vans… We even had a Barbie car! We had some little astronauts too – we encourage our children to reach for the stars, and they certainly do. The creations today were amazing, the children put so much thought and effort into their outfits and were thrilled to see what their friends and teachers had chosen to come as.

Dressing up for World Book Day is a fun and engaging way for children to immerse themselves in their character and creates a sense of wonder and curiosity. At Pre-Prep we believe that instilling a love for reading from a young age empowers children to be lifelong learners and avid readers. There were various activities during the day, all aimed to help the children celebrate the joy of reading:

Shared Reading

In order to promote reading across the Foundation, some boys from QEGS and girls from WGHS came over to to Pre-Prep to read a range of their favourite stories to the children. We also had some of the senior section girls over to join us, and it was fabulous to have such a range of ages interacting with each other. Some of our Year 2 children went into the Early Years classes to read to our youngest children, which they thoroughly enjoyed and we hope that it inspires them to read as regularly as possible, both at school and at home.

Shared Writing

During the day, all the children took part in a shared writing activity. Each class collaboratively wrote a paragraph to add to the school story and once all the classes had contributed to this, we shared the full story during assembly. The children came up with some imaginative and descriptive ideas and worked together as a team to produce their exciting instalment in the story.
