What a spectacular week we’ve had! The ‘East Wind’ certainly brought something special to WGPPS this week, whisking us away on a journey of wonder, history, and a generous sprinkle of Edwardian magic. Our much-anticipated WoW Week saw the whole school community, pupils and staff alike, ‘jump’ headfirst into a world of imagination.
We kicked things off by stepping back in time to the cobblestone streets of 1910 London. From the soot-stained faces of our young chimney sweeps to the bustling market stalls of Cherry Tree Lane, the school felt like a living history book. It was wonderful to hear the sounds of market chatter and formal dancing filling the air as our children explored how life has changed over the years. Our youngest explorers in EYFS loved the sensory role-play, while our Year 2 historians impressed us all with their deep thinking and debates on ‘Inventions that Changed the World.’
By Tuesday, the wind had shifted, and a very ‘Perfect Nanny’ arrived to help us see the world with fresh eyes! Mary Poppins officially took charge, and we spent the day ‘measuring’ ourselves, not in centimetres, but in character! Whether the tape measure said “Full of Giggles” or “Spit-Spot Tidy,” it was a lovely way to talk about bravery and how a “Spoonful of Sugar” helps us face new challenges. It was a truly supercalifragilistic day!
On Wednesday, the ordinary became extraordinary as our playground and classrooms were transformed into magical chalk-drawing portals. The school was buzzing with creativity, from the giggles in our ‘Laughing Room’ to the busy service in our very own Penguin Café. We learned that imagination isn’t just for stories; it’s a brilliant tool for resilience, showing us that when things feel a little tricky, a bit of magical thinking can go a long way!
Today, we were up on the rooftops, not literally! Our pupils explored the importance of having a voice, inspired by the suffragette work of Mrs Banks. Our Year 2 ‘Change Makers’ proudly wore their sashes while collecting ‘Votes for our New School.’ We also opened our ‘Kindness Bank,’ where children have been depositing kind actions and saving up wise ideas for our move to our new building. Our ‘Pupil Voice Tree’ is now blooming with beautiful leaves of hope for our future. Well done everybody!
To wrap up our incredible week tomorrow, we will be taking to the skies, the playground will be a sea of colour as every child creates and flies their handmade kites, each one carrying a hope or a dream for our new school. We will also spend some time writing ‘Letters to our Future Selves’ and saying a fond farewell to Mary Poppins, whose been Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
While the week is sadly coming to an end, the ‘Change Champion’ spirit our children have shown will stay with us as we move forward together. A huge thank you to our amazing and adventurous children, and our ‘practically perfect’ staff for making this a week we will never forget! ⛱️🪁
