3. Assessment Day & Offers

Once we receive your application we will invite your child for an assessment.  Please find below detailed information about this at the various entry points.

Entry Into Years 3 - 6

Children will be invited in for a Taster Day which includes age-appropriate assessments in Maths and English, an informal interview with a member of our Junior section and a chance for fun and learning with current students.  Our Taster Day is designed to be as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.

Offers

Following the Taster Day, the Director of the Junior section will email to inform you of the outcome.

Children who join us in the Junior section automatically transition to Year 7, without requirement to attend Year 7 Assessment Day unless they wish to apply for a scholarship.

Entry Into Year 7

Year 7 is our most popular entry point.  Bursary applicants for September 2025 entry should apply as soon as possible. All candidates applying for a  place will be invited to our Assessment Day.

The Assessment Day for September 2025 entry is 14 January 2025.

Our wish is for prospective students to enjoy the experience at Assessment Day. During the day, every student takes part in a variety of fun activities and lunch with some of our current students as well as completing assessments and an informal interview with a member of our academic team. We know from experience that these different experiences not only show us more than written papers alone, but also give your child the chance to experience life at QEGS.

Offers

An email will be sent to parents at the start of February together with an invitation for our successful candidates to join us for a Taster Day.  Our Taster Day gives everyone an opportunity to meet their future classmates, make friends and discover more about life and learning at QEGS.

Parents will be invited to a Welcome Evening held in May where we will share with you a welcome pack. Students can meet their new classmates and teachers and familiarise themselves with school before the start of term.

Entry Into Years 8 - 10

Candidates will be invited in to sit assessments in Maths, English Comprehension, English Writing and Science, as well as an informal interview with a member of our academic team.

Following the entrance examination you will receive an email from the Head informing you of the outcome and next steps for successful applicants.

Entry Into Sixth Form

For entry to our Sixth Form candidates are required to achieve a minimum grade 5 in Mathematics and English Language and a minimum grade 6 in those subjects to be studied at A level, with the exception of Mathematics and Science subjects, which require a minimum grade 7.

Following receipt of your application, we will invite you to meet with our Director of Sixth Form, to discuss your A Level choices and aspirations for the Sixth Form and beyond. Please bring your predicted GCSE grades. We will contact your current school for a  reference. We will email conditional offers shortly thereafter.

Offers

Final offers will be made following confirmation of candidates’ final GCSE grades, which will be released on 22 August 2024.

We fully understand that not everyone may attain the grades they were expecting or hoping for. This is why we strongly encourage all prospective students to contact us on results day if they have narrowly missed our entry criteria so that we can discuss alternative options if required.

Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available for students joining the Sixth Form.

We strongly recommend early application.
