Speech Day

5th July 2023

We were delighted to welcome our families to our second annual Speech Day. What a year it has been! Every child has worked hard this academic year and Speech Day is our opportunity to come together to celebrate all.

As is our emerging tradition, Speech Day is linked to our very special WOW Week which happens in school during the year. This year, our WOW Week was inspired byThe Magic Faraway Tree and The Enchanted Forest and it was with great excitement that our Speech Day venue, Jubilee Hall at Wakefield Girls’ High School,  was transformed into a magical forest for our celebratory occasion.

A special feature of our Speech Day are special mentions and prizes – and there were so many to give this year.  To children who are always kind and helpful, to those who never forget their manners, to students who give 100% to learning each week, to those who have gone above and beyond to support charities, and to individuals who support and help others….. Our children are amazing every day.

We values smiles as much as success and awards were presented to over 50 children, with thanks to our Governor Penny Plumpton, Deputy Chair of Governors Helen Massey and our guest speaker: author, consultant and practising teacher Claire Gadsby.

Prizes were presented for progress in reading, maths, attitude to learning, showing kindness, for resilience, for always being respectful and for problem solving.

Awards were presented for achievement in Science, Sports, Music, English, Languages and Art.

Dragon awards were presented for leadership, teamwork, creativity, collaboration and understanding the zones of regulation (looking after wellbeing and that of others).

Trophies and a Headteacher award were awarded to three students for always going above and beyond and showcasing Pre-prep values; embodying the school values and living the school spirit and for kindness, quietly living the values of the Pre-Prep, bringing smiles on a daily basis.

We were thrilled to welcome Stephen Dacre from Northern Gas to present one of our students with an award for her winning entry into a national video competition, highlighting the dangers of Carbon Monoxide.

Thank you to our choir for entertaining us so wonderfully throughout with their beautiful singing performances, our flash mob for the fantastic surprise(!) and our Head Girl and Boy team for their address.
